Comprender, mantenerse firme y superar
Analicemos el capítulo uno de Josué y relacionemos esta gran verdad con la toma de Jericó, cómo resistieron y vencieron. En este relato vemos que los muros sirven para proteger o pueden ser un obstáculo que superar, dependiendo de en qué lado del muro te encuentres. Ciertamente, existen muros físicos y muros mentales, como los que rodean el corazón de las personas.
En este relato, Josué e Israel se enfrentan a lo que parece una muralla infranqueable: Jericó, la ciudad más fortificada de Canaán y clave para la conquista de la tierra prometida. Pero veremos que Josué se mantuvo firme en lo que Dios le había dicho, y no solo eso, sino que también actuó con integridad en sus tratos, al igual que los espías que envió y Rahab. Todos ellos demostraron integridad, pues esta es fundamental para superar cualquier desafío.
En Josué, capítulo uno, versículo cinco, Dios le dice: «Nadie podrá hacerte frente en todos los días de tu vida, como estuve con Moisés. No te desampararé ni te abandonaré». Dios jamás nos fallará, y si nos mantenemos firmes, la oposición que enfrentamos, sin importar cuál sea, tampoco prevalecerá, al igual que en los días de Josué. Porque cuando nos mantenemos firmes con Dios y para Dios, Él manifiesta su poder y su liberación.
El fundamento bíblico
Y en el capítulo dos de Josué leemos sobre este relato; en el versículo uno dice que Josué, hijo de Nun, envió a dos hombres a espiar en secreto, diciéndoles: «Id a explorar la tierra, incluso Jericó». Fueron y llegaron a la casa de una prostituta llamada Rahab, y se hospedaron allí. Ahora bien, algunos comentaristas dicen que en realidad no era una prostituta, sino una posadera, pero eso no importa; era una mujer y tenía una gran integridad, independientemente de su origen, como veremos en este relato.
Y se informó al rey de Jericó que había llegado esta noche de entre los hijos de Israel para explorar el país. Y el rey de Jericó mandó llamar a Rahab diciendo: «Trae a los hombres que han venido a tu casa, que han entrado en ella, porque han venido a explorar todo el país». Y la mujer tomó a los dos hombres y los escondió, y dijo: «Vinieron unos hombres a mí, pero no supe de dónde venían». Entonces ella redirigió la búsqueda porque sabía algo, y esto es lo que sabía.
Mira el versículo nueve, ella dijo a los dos hombres que yo conocía. Sé que el Señor te ha dado la tierra y que tu terror ha caído sobre nosotros y que todos los habitantes de la tierra desfallecen a causa de ti. Ella está a un lado del muro, Israel al otro, porque hemos oído cómo el Señor secó las aguas del Mar Rojo para ti cuando saliste de Egipto, eso fue 40 años antes de estos 40 años y todavía resonaba entre el pueblo.
Ejemplos y lecciones espirituales
Y lo que hicisteis a los reyes de los amorreos que estaban al otro lado del Jordán, Sihón y Og, a quienes destruisteis por completo, y tan pronto como oímos estas cosas, nuestros corazones se derritieron y nadie quedó más valor por causa de vosotros. Porque el Señor vuestro Dios es Dios, es Elohim en los cielos arriba y en la tierra abajo. ¡Qué testimonio tan tremendo de una persona que era considerada incrédula! Esta es una persona incrédula al otro lado de la muralla de Jericó declarando que el Señor es Elohim en el cielo y en la tierra.
Tremendo. Ahora, pues, te ruego que me jures por el Señor, puesto que te he mostrado bondad, que también mostrarás bondad a la casa de mi padre y me darás una señal verdadera, y que salvarás la vida de mi padre y mi madre y mis hermanos y mis hermanas y todo lo que tenemos y todo lo que ellos tienen y librarás nuestras vidas de la muerte.
Y el hombre le respondió: «Nuestra vida por la tuya; si no dices nada, esto es asunto nuestro. Cuando el Señor nos dé la tierra, te trataremos con bondad y sinceridad». Ella era una mujer cananea y terminó formando parte del linaje de Cristo; sin embargo, reconoció que Dios Elohim era el Señor Jehová y el poder que él tenía. Y fíjense en la importancia de sus palabras: no estaban firmando un contrato, estaban arriesgando sus vidas.
Fe en Acción
Eso es algo bastante poderoso, especialmente cuando estás en medio de una situación difícil. Lo que sucede es que ella los deja bajar por una ventana porque su casa estaba construida sobre la muralla, parte de su casa era la muralla en un lado, probablemente en el lado norte de Jericó porque entraron más tarde por el lado sur cuando la muralla cayó. Mira el capítulo 2, versículo 17. Y los hombres le dijeron: Seremos inocentes de este juramento tuyo que nos has hecho jurar.
He aquí, cuando entremos en la tierra, atarás este hilo escarlata en la ventana por la que nos dejaste bajar, y traerás a tu padre, a tu madre, a tus hermanos y a toda la familia de tu padre a tu casa, y sucederá que cualquiera que salga de tu casa a la calle, su sangre recaerá sobre su cabeza, y nosotros seremos inocentes; y cualquiera que esté contigo en la casa, su sangre recaerá sobre nuestra cabeza si alguna mano lo toca. ¡Guau!
Y si dices esto, nuestro asunto, entonces quedaremos libres del juramento que nos has hecho jurar. Me encanta su respuesta aquí, dice según tus palabras, que así sea. Habla de que nunca había conocido a estos tipos antes, nunca los había conocido y cada uno está poniendo su vida en manos del otro y son solo palabras entre ellos, solo palabras, mira la integridad y la calidad de estas personas y ella los despidió y se fueron y ella ató la línea escarlata en la ventana.
Caminando con amor y confianza
Sí, más le vale hacerlo, eso es lo que dijo que iba a hacer y eso es exactamente lo que hace. Mira el capítulo 3. Sabes, esto me recuerda a una sección de Mateo, Mateo 5:34-37. En Mateo 5:34-37, Jesucristo enseña sobre hacer un juramento, un compromiso; esto es lo que dijo en Mateo 5:34-37.
Pero yo os digo que Jesús dijo: No juréis en absoluto, ni por el cielo porque es el trono de Dios, ni por la tierra porque es el estrado de sus pies, ni por Jerusalén porque es la ciudad del gran rey, ni juraréis por vuestra cabeza porque no puedes hacer que un solo cabello sea blanco o negro, sino que vuestro hablar sea sí, sí, no, no; porque todo lo que es más que esto, de mal procede.
Lo que Jesús está diciendo ahí es que tu sí sea sí y tu no sea no, punto final de la historia, ten integridad, di lo que piensas y piensa lo que dices, y así es como tratamos a la gente porque de lo contrario esto viene el mal y el texto está en Mateo es el maligno, le da acceso al adversario cuando la gente no dice lo que piensa y no piensa lo que dice.
Aplicar la enseñanza en la vida diaria

here not only physically are the waters being held back but also spiritually the waters of the enemy the adversary are being held back and the children of Israel are going to pass right through and came to pass when the people removed from their tents to pass over Jordan and the priest bearing the ark of the covenant before the people and as they bear the ark were come unto Jordan and the feet of the priest that bear the ark were dipped in the brim of the water for the Jordan overflow of all his banks all the time of harvest and you've got to picture this you got the priest carrying the ark of the covenant and they're approaching the water which is overflowing its banks at this time of year and they're getting closer and nothing's happening yet they are stayed they're focused on what Joshua told them and not until they touch the brim of the water do those waters part they're getting close they're 10 feet 5 feet 3 feet 2 feet away and then and when they touch that brim boom the waters part oftentimes life is like that you just have to keep moving and if God says something he will bring it to pass that the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon and he very far from the city of adam that is beside zaratan and those that came down toward the sea of the plain even the salt sea fell and were cut off and the people passed over right against jordan and the priests that bear the ark of the covenant of the lord stood firm not only did they physically stand firm they also stood firm in their heart on what they were told they stood in the midst of jordan even though it had been flooded with water the land was sufficiently dry for them to walk right over it on the dry ground in the midst of jordan and all the all the israelites passed over on dry ground until all the people were passed clean over jordan god makes the point very clear and establish it that they went on dry ground even though it was under the river amazing amazing so joshua and the priests stood and they passed over safely look at chapter 5 verse 9 and the lord said unto joshua this day have i rolled away the reproach of egypt from you wherefore the name of the place is called gilgal unto this day the word gilgal means rolling like you roll off something off your back you finally get something off your back and what they had on their back was the shame israel had shame that they had been in egypt and in slavery for 400 years and and they were under the enemy's thumb and this shame was now rolled away when they crossed over the jordan they were literally in the land of canaan and look at what else happens and the children of israel and camped in gilgal and kept the passover on the 14th day of the month that even in the plains of jericho and then they they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover unleavened cakes and parched corn in the self same day and the manna that had been going on for 40 years six days a week ceased on the morrow after they eaten of the of the old corn of the land neither had the children of israel manna anymore but they did eat of the fruit of the land of canaan that year wow they were no more disgraced whenever people stand in a situation their their shame and all the past just moves out of the way look at chapter six well what happens is is they take a stand and god instructs joshua to march around the city once a day for six days and on the seventh day they march around seven times and they blow the trumpets and the people shout and that wall just falls down in jericho and they go in and take the city and what i really want you to see here there's so much in this record this is so amazing look at verse 22 and mistaking the most fortified city in the land of canaan look at how joshua does not forget verse 22 but joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country go into the harlot's house that's rahab and bring out thence the woman and all that she hath as ye swear unto her he made an oath he made a commitment and in this of all the things going on he never forgot it he kept it and the young men that were spies went in and brought out rahab and her father and her mother and her brethren and all that she had and they brought out all her kindred and left them without the camp of israel and rahab became part of the christ line she married producing children and eventually the christ pretty powerful stuff so walls can be depend on what you are you're behind it or you want to get through it god can overcome those situations as we stand as we stand and in the midst of standing we're going to have to deal with people more than likely and as we do and as we work with them we should have integrity we should say what we mean and mean what we say and you can see this powerful record really does speak to that clearly
